Vision
A world where individuals thrive in community with others.
Mission
Provide a social networking platform where users can connect casually around common interests with other people nearby.
Instead of following the typical interest-group model of popular social networking companies, this platform would focus on connecting individuals efficiently and safely.
This individuals-model enables more efficient connections, helping someone quickly find collaboration partners in their area without the need to first attend a networking event.
When applied to a private community, the individuals-model would enable Members of a community to quickly find people in their institution, so that they can more efficiently and safely meet people and pursue interests together.
Founder
Product Designer and Nashville-native, Wes Nelson, first experienced the inefficiency of modern social networking platforms over a decade ago:
- “How is it that it’s so hard for me to find people in my area who share my interests?”
- “Wouldn’t it be nice to not be overwhelmed by group notifications. Instead only receive notifications for what interests me?”
- “The vast majority of people want to belong and contribute to society. How might this people of positivity be harnessed in our communities?”
Today, the “Towner” app is a result of 100s of conversations, iterations, and attempts to provide a platform to equip people to better connect with people nearby, so local communities can flourish.
